The light bulb over the head feeling...

We've all experienced that.

It happens all the time but sometimes the effect is more profound than others.....

This morning was one of those times. To appreciate it you have to read this short diary over at KOS.

Evidently it's a story that is being passed around the web (presumably in Liberal circles) and the author clearly points out that it's not her own story. As such the veracity of it is somewhat less that courtroom grade (okay...a lot less) but it's a beautiful story nonetheless.

The "light bulb" moment for me comes from this passage:

And I noticed my new best friend -- by now we were holding hands -- had a potted plant poking out of her bag, some medicinal thing, with green furry leaves. Such an old country traveling tradition. Always carry a plant. Always stay rooted to somewhere.

Always stay rooted somewhere.

This Palestinian woman was carrying her "roots" with her. How important is her homeland to her? How willing would she and her sons and daughters be to fight to the death for their "roots"?

The entire scope of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict just became very clear to me....on a personal and very profound level.
