it's not smart....
it's not even politically expedient...
it's dumb...
here's what Scarecrow at firedoglake has to say about yesterday' MoveOn vote in the Senate:
The 22 Democrats who betrayed their party and its supporters by voting to condemn MoveOn probably thought voting for a Republican stunt would shield them from further Republican smears. For the umpteenth time, they were wrong.
Their delusions were shattered again when President Bush used his bullying pulpit to smear the entire “Democrat” party, claiming most of them are “more afraid of irritating a left-wing group like Moveon.org . . . than they are of irritating the United States military.”
and....
Had enough, Senators? You were set up, again. As Jane keeps explaining, never support Republican talking points or attacks on Democratic allies. Never. And just in case you’ve forgotten what’s important here, I left a few reminders.
I keep telling our local officials that compromising with the Republicans on their issues is, just exactly as Newt Gingrich called it, DATE RAPE!

I was appalled at the 4 votes lost in 4 days for the Democrats nationally and went on somewhat of a rant on this at our local Party meeting only to be challenged by one of our local representatives. Not only did we fail to get habeus corpus back, the Feingold-Reid amendment passed, or the Webb amendment passed, but then there was the distraction bill proposed by Sen. Cornyn. Of course, there was NO trouble getting that approved! Nothing more criticial to do in Congress (by many Dems as well as most Republicans) than condemn an AD. In a NEWSPAPER! I am referring to the Move.On.Org ad in the Times which used a word which rhymes with "Petraus". This, after Sen. Durbin and Sen. Boxer expounded at length on how it was perfectly acceptable for Repubs in 2004 to "swiftboat" military figures such as John Kerry and Max Clelland. Whether the MoveOn ad was a stupid move or not (as some believe) is NOT the point. We dont need to cave EVER to silly distractions by Repugs who continue to do us in and then cry like babies when this happens to them. Apparently, some local as well as national leaders in the Democratic Party seem to think this move against Move.On is perfectly alright. Just call me frustrated and angry as hell.
Primary opponents....
We need lots and lots of primary opponents
